Welcome to the blogosphere. I am sure you will find it rewarding as well as frustrating. I have a blog, Berry Street Beacon, which I started in February. The hardest thing I have found is just getting enough time to devote to writing.
While I support development, I also believe development in a floodplain requires caution and planning. The FEMA maps show the North River property lying in a floodplain, which may cause some issues as to the ability to develop too close to the river.
The Association of State Floodplain Managers takes the "no adverse impact floodplain management" position. The full discussion is found at their website http://www.floods.org/NoAdverseImpact/whitepaper.asp
Any discussion of development along or near the banks of Fort Wayne's rivers is not complete without addressing the issue of flooding.
Thank you for your post re: the flooding issue. I concur with your assessment that any development along or near the riverbanks must respect the challenges we already face.
The issue is of great importance and I'm creating a separate post for flood discussion.
